Some babies in the moments and days after birth need the specialized services of neonatology to thrive, and for others just to survive. As a result of the rapidly increasing population in Netanya, the Maternity and Neonatal Departments are suffering from unprecedented overcrowding. The facilities that were adequate when the monthly birth rate was 250 - 300 are totally inadequate today for between 500 – 550 births a month. The need to respond is imperative.
The phenomenal success of the Neonatal Department at Laniado Hospital is due to the outstanding caliber of its medical and nursing staff: Department Director Dr. Meir Weissbrot is among Israel’s most qualified and respected neonatologists. Dr. Yoram Bental who heads the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is President of the Israeli Society of Neonatologists. Head Nurse Judith Pinto, who had lovingly cuddled the first baby born at the newly opened Laniado Hospital 31 years ago, showered the same love and enthusiasm cuddling the 100,000th baby born on February 11, 2008.
Plans have been made to extend the current Neonatal Floor for healthy newborn infants and extend the lower floor specifically for the Premature Baby and Neonatal Intensive Care and Intermediate Care Units at a cost of $4,500,000. We need your support to make this happen.
A special emphasis had been placed at the outset by the Hospital’s founder, the Sanz-Klauzenburger Rebbe, zt”l, on the Maternity, Neonatology and Pediatric Departments. The Rebbe, who lost his wife and 11 children in Auschwitz, felt that after we witnessed the annihilation of 6,000,000, more than a third of world Jewry, we have a sacred obligation to rebuild the Jewish nation and to do our utmost to assure that they grow up healthy and strong.
It is now up to us to fulfill that vision. To find out how you can help please visit our website at laniadohospital.orgor call Shirley at 212-944-2690.
